Definition, properties & usages of porous concrete

The purpose of porous alias previous concrete is to infiltrate water. Porous signifies the water is permitted to move through.

The concrete having extreme porosity facilitates water from precipitation and other sources to go through directly.

The infiltration strength of the concrete differs from 72 to 500 litres/hrs. In this way, the rain water is saved with effective storm water management.

The porous concrete is best suited for pavements, walkways, parking lots, green houses etc.

The porous concrete comprises of the following elements :-

0% fine aggregates
Cement along with pozzoluna (fly ash)
Voids 15% to 35%
100% coarse aggregates with maximum size of 12.5 mm
Water and admixture

Design mix for 1m3 volume with adherence to 10262 : 2009

Cement (OPC 43) ? 20 kg
Fly Ash ? 112 kg
Coarse Aggregate (12.5 mm sieve passing) ? 1910 kg
Admixture (Naphthalene based) ? 0.4% (240 + 112) ? 1.50 kg
Water ? 170 kg

The properties of porous concrete
Fresh Density ? 2425 kg/m3
